Global Warming Basics
So exactly what is Global Warming?
It is hard to turn on the TV or radio these days without hearing the phrase 'Global Warming' mentioned at least once and in all honesty, it has become so common place that it frequently falls on deaf ears. There is constant debate surrounding the reasons and factors of such a trend. Some argue that it is a variance in nature, while others contend that it is due purely to human influence and, of course, there are supporters for every degree in between. While there is no official answer on what is to blame, we can be sure of one thing -- the earth's average temperature has risen and is continuing to climb.
So what exactly is considered 'global warming' one might wonder. Well, to put it simply, an increase of 1 or more degrees Celsius in a period of one hundred to two hundred years would be considered global warming. Over the course of a single century, an increase of even 0.4 degrees Celsius would be significant. To keep things in perspective, the infamous 'Ice Ages' that inspire thoughts of an earth covered in snow and ice with bitterly cold weather was actually only 5 Celsius degrees cooler than modern average temperatures.
As for the consequences, you don't have to look to far to see some of the results due to this rise in temperature. They ranger from melting ice caps, to droughts, not to mention the escalating extreme weather incidents and we can only guess what else the future holds, but there is one thing we can do right here and now. No matter your personal beliefs or opinions on global warming, we can each make a conscious decision to make a few simple adjustments to change our perspective and begin living in an Eco-friendly manner.
